The trek around Dhaulagiri is one for the experienced trekker. You start in the foothills of the Himalayas, but soon you enter high-alpine uninhabited valleys dominated by eight-thousanders. Here, the hikes are demanding, and the isolation is vast. You sleep for a few nights in a tent and cross snowy passes. The Dhaulagiri Trek is for the true adventurer.

For the true adventurer

The Dhaulagiri region offers you views of multiple peaks rising above seven and eight thousand meters. The local trails provide access to incredibly beautiful, isolated valleys. You must have a firm footing, as this trek is rightly considered one of the toughest in Nepal. A sense of adventure and good focus are essential if you want to take on this challenge. In the first few days, you sleep in local lodges, but later you camp in tents. The route traverses challenging mountain passes (French Pass and Thapa Pass) that are well above 5000 meters. Walking can sometimes be technical, on snowy and icy trails. Trekking in this region means entering valleys that are uninhabited, so it feels like exploring a new world.

Difficulty

The trek around Dhaulagiri is challenging. You should enjoy being active for 4 to 8 hours daily. You also need to have stable footing, as some sections are technical. In total, you will walk about 150 kilometers during the trek. You will do this with a light backpack (the rest will be carried by local porters). What makes the trek more challenging than a similar trek in the Alps is the thin air. Each participant reacts differently to it. Therefore, we do not rush anything, and there is ample opportunity for each individual to acclimate at their own pace. This is ensured by the guides of Momo Trekking.
