Everest Basecamp & the Gokyo Valley

Kala Pattar, Momo Trekking, Everest Basecamp, Annapurna, Manaslu, Island Peak

The 17-day trek to Everest Base Camp in Nepal is the classic among treks. The hike takes you from Lukla, through Sherpaland, to the foot of the world's highest mountain: Mount Everest. The views you encounter during this trek are among the most beautiful on earth. On the way to the base camp of Mount Everest, you experience the Buddhist lifestyle of the local people, while the background is dominated by mountains that easily surpass the height of 8000 meters. An absolutely unique trail with the beautiful Gokyo lakes as a bonus.

Day 1 (Arrival in Nepal)

Arrival in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. A taxi from our team will be waiting for you at the airport to take you to the hotel.

Day 2 (Kathmandu)

Introduction to Kathmandu. We will visit several temples and stroll through the bustling streets of Thamel, Nepal's tourist district.

Day 3 (Kathmandu-Phakding)

Today you'll get your first glimpse of the Himalayan giants. You'll fly from Kathmandu or Ramechap to Lukla, a mountain village at 2800 meters. The flight is an adventure in itself, offering your first view of the majestic white peaks stretching beyond the horizon. The landing at Lukla is thrilling. From there, we'll leisurely walk towards Phakding to spend the night in a cozy guesthouse.

Day 4 (Phakding-Namche Bazaar)

We trek to Namche Bazaar, the Sherpa capital of Nepal. We'll follow a beautiful river, crossing it multiple times via steel suspension bridges, some of which are dizzyingly high above the water. We're gaining altitude steadily; Namche is nearly at 3500 meters.

Day 5 (Namche Bazaar)

Today is for acclimatization. We'll hike to a viewpoint where Mount Everest is visible for the first time. We'll spend another night in Namche.

Day 6 (Namche-Tengboche)

Our goal for the day is Tengboche. The approach is easy, with stunning views of Ama Dablam and Mount Everest. The final climb to Tengboche (3900 meters) is challenging but rewarding. In Tengboche, you can admire the largest Buddhist monastery in the Khumbu Valley.

Day 7 (Tengboche-Dingboche)

We'll surpass 4000 meters for the first time as we trek towards Dingboche. We'll ascend above the tree line, catching the first glimpse of the valley leading us towards Mount Everest.

Day 8 (Dingboche)

Today is another day for acclimatization and rest. In the morning, we'll hike to a viewpoint, and the rest of the day will be spent adjusting to the thin air (4400 meters).

Day 9 (Dingboche-Lobuche)

Today, we trek to Lobuche at 5000 meters. We'll reach this village after a steep climb towards the memorial site for fallen Everest climbers.

Day 10 (Lobuche-Everest Basecamp)

The destination is in sight. Today, we make the journey to the base camp of Mount Everest (5500 meters). Here, you'll catch a glimpse of the impressive Khumbu Icefall and see the world's highest mountain up close. The summit is not visible from here. We'll sleep in Gorak Shep, a collection of guesthouses.

Day 11 (Gorak Shep-Kala Pattar-Dzongla)

Today, you'll see the summit. We'll hike to Kala Pattar, offering the best view of Mount Everest at 5600 meters. After this literal and figurative peak, we'll descend to Dzongla.

Day 12 (Dzongla-Cho La-Gokyo)

We'll cross the Cho La pass into the Gokyo Valley, where we can admire the sacred lakes.

Day 13 (Gokyo Ri-Dole)

We'll climb to Gokyo Ri, a fantastic viewpoint. Then descend towards Dole.

Day 14-16 (Descend to Namche and Lukla for the return flight to Kathmandu)

Day 17 (Kathmandu) Back home!

Everest Basecamp

Difficulty

The trek to Everest Base Camp is manageable for experienced hikers. You should enjoy being active for 4 to 8 hours daily. In total, you'll cover 130 kilometers during the trek. You'll carry a light backpack (the rest will be carried by local porters). What makes the trek slightly more challenging than, for example, a hike in the Alps, is the thin air. Each participant reacts differently to this. That's why we don't rush anything and there's ample opportunity for each individual participant to acclimate at their own pace. An English speaking guide will ensure this
