Day by day

Day 1 (Arrival in Nepal)

Arrival in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. A taxi will be waiting for you at the airport to take you to the hotel.

Day 2 (Kathmandu)

Getting to know Kathmandu. We'll go on an excursion to visit some temples and stroll through the busy streets of Thamel, the tourist district of Nepal.

Day 3 (Kathmandu-Phakding)

Today, you'll get your first glimpse of the Himalayan giants. You'll fly from Kathmandu to Lukla, a mountain village at 2800 meters. The flight is an experience in itself, as it offers the first view of the majestic white peaks stretching beyond the horizon. The landing in Lukla is thrilling. From there, we'll walk slowly towards Phakding to spend the night in a cozy guesthouse.

Day 4 (Phakding-Namche Bazaar)

We trek to Namche Bazaar, the capital of the Sherpas in Nepal. We'll follow a beautiful river, crossing it several times using steel suspension bridges that sometimes hang dizzyingly high above the water. We're gaining altitude steadily: Namche is almost at 3500 meters.

Day 5 (Namche Bazaar)

Today is a day to acclimatize to the altitude. We'll hike to a viewpoint from where you can see Mount Everest for the first time. We'll spend another night in Namche afterward.

Day 6 (Namche-Tengboche)

The destination for the day is Tengboche. The approach is easy, with beautiful views of Ama Dablam and Mount Everest. The final climb to Tengboche (3900 meters) is intensive but very rewarding. In Tengboche, you can admire the largest Buddhist monastery in the Khumbu Valley.

Day 7 (Tengboche-Dingboche)

We reach over 4000 meters for the first time as we head towards Dingboche. We'll pass the tree line and get the first glimpse of the valley leading us towards Everest.

Day 8 (Dingboche)

This day is again dedicated to acclimatization and resting. In the morning, we'll hike to a viewpoint, and the rest of the day will be used to let our bodies adjust to the thin air (4400 meters).

Day 9 (Dingboche-Lobuche)

Today we trek to Lobuche at 5000 meters. We'll reach the village after a steep climb towards the memorial site for fallen Everest climbers.

Day 10 (Lobuche-Everest Base Camp)

The destination is in sight. Today we make the journey to the base camp of Mount Everest (5500 meters). Here, you'll catch a glimpse of the impressive Khumbu Icefall and see the world's highest mountain up close. The summit is not visible from here. We'll sleep in Gorak Shep, a collection of guesthouses.

Day 11 (Gorak Shep-Lobuche)

In the morning, we'll climb to Kalla Pattar, where we'll get a magnificent view of the Everest massif. Then we'll descend to Lobuche.

Days 12, 13, and 14 (Lobuche East, 6119 meters)

These three days are dedicated to the ascent of Lobuche East. We'll hike to the high camp, have lunch there, and receive instruction on the use of fixed ropes in the afternoon. After an early dinner, it's time to go to bed because the climb starts at 2 am. Depending on the conditions on the mountain and the participants' condition, the climb to the summit takes between 5 and 8 hours. Then, there's the descent. If we return on time, we'll hike back to Lobuche. Otherwise, we'll spend another night in the high camp.

Days 15-16-17 (Descent back to Lukla)

We trek back to Lukla.

Day 18 (Lukla-Kathmandu)

Domestic flight to Kathmandu.

Day 19 (Kathmandu)

Return flight home.

Difficulty

The trek to the base of the mountain is moderately challenging. You should enjoy being active for about 4 to 8 hours daily. In total, you'll cover approximately 200 kilometers during the trek. You'll carry a light backpack (the rest will be carried by local porters). What makes the trek more challenging than a similar one in the Alps is the thin air. Each participant reacts differently to altitude, so we don't rush anything and there's ample opportunity for each individual to adjust. This is ensured by the guides of Momo Trekking. On the mountain itself, you'll need to have good fitness and know how to navigate in high-alpine terrain.

  • You will be picked up from the airport in Kathmandu.

  • All accommodations during the trek and climb are included. Accommodations in Kathmandu are also covered (including breakfast).
