Makalu Basecamp
At over 8,450 meters, Makalu is the fifth highest mountain in the world. The trip to the foot of this colossal peak is challenging and takes you through the isolated Barun Valley. This trek involves a lot of climbing and descending, and the crossing of the famous Shipton Pass is particularly unforgettable. The panorama from the viewpoint above Makalu Base Camp is one of the most impressive in the Himalayas.

Difficulty

The trek to Makalu Base Camp is manageable for the experienced hiker. However, we do require you to start with good physical condition, as there is a lot of ascending and descending. You should enjoy being active for 4 to 8 hours daily. You will carry a light backpack (the rest will be transported by local porters). What makes this trek slightly more challenging compared to, for instance, a hike in the Alps, is the thin air. Each participant reacts differently to it. Therefore, we do not rush anything, and there is ample opportunity for each individual to acclimate at their own pace.
